The Iranian Agriculture Ministry has set up a working group to expand exports of food products to Russia, according to Agriculture Minister Mahmoud Hojjati.

Chicken meat and eggs are the main food products Iran currently be exported to Russia, the ISNA news agency quoted Hojjati as saying on Saturday.

On August 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree “banning or limiting” imports of agricultural products from all countries that have imposed sanctions on Russia, showing that he has no intention of bending to economic pressure from the United States and the European Union.

Iran and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on August 5 which calls for the expansion of trade and economic cooperation in the fields of energy and energy-related infrastructure, particularly the oil and gas sector, as well as the supply of machinery, equipment, consumer goods, and agricultural products.

Specific contracts and agreements could be signed during the meeting of the intergovernmental commission slated for September 9-10 in Tehran.
